BURY u3a TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

 We recommend waiting until 1st January 2026 to join, as our current programme of interest groups is closing for the Christmas/New Year break. If you join after 1st January, you will get 15 months membership for the price of 12 months'.

All members must:

  • Abide by the Principles of the u3a movement.
  • Always act in the best interests of the u3a and never do anything to bring the u3a into disrepute.
  • Abide by the terms and conditions of the Constitution.
  • Treat fellow members with respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Comply with and support the decisions of the elected committee.
  • Advise the committee of any change in your personal details.

The statements below set out Terms and Conditions applicable to being a member of Bury u3a. These cover the following subjects, which you are consenting to if you join us:

Details of Bury u3a's Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy are also available on the left hand menu. By continuing with your application it will be assumed you are also agreeing to these documents.

JOINING BURY u3a

After selecting 'I Agree', and completing the Application Form on the next page, you will offered the facility to pay your membership subscription by credit or debit card. If you do not wish to pay in this way, simply click the 'Pay fee Later' button and wait to receive an e-mail confirmation of your application from the Membership Secretary. This will include instructions on how to pay by sending a cheque to the Membership Secretary.

GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATIONS

Bury u3a has implemented a Data Protection Policy and Privacy Policy in order to comply with requirements under the General Data Protection Regulations in connection with the holding and dissemination of personal data. The Committee is responsible for monitoring that these policies are being correctly applied, and each Member is responsible for adhering to this Policy.

PRIVACY POLICY

Bury u3a requires members to provide their personal information so that you can be kept informed about events and activities that are offered as part of your membership. In collecting your information Bury u3a will:

  • Store it securely
  • Use it to communicate with you as a u3a member.
  • Share your information with group leaders for those groups that you are a member of.
  • Send you general information about the Third Age Trust (The Third Age Trust is the national organisation to which all u3as are affiliated).

PHOTOGRAPHS

Photographs are classified as personal data. Where group photographs are being taken members will be asked to step out of shot if they don’t wish to be in the photograph. Otherwise consent will be obtained from members in order for photographs to be taken and members will be informed as to where photographs will be displayed; usually on this website. Should a member wish at any time to remove their consent and to have their photograph deleted then they may request to have it removed. 

EMERGENCY CONTACT

We ask for emergency contact details so that we know who to contact on your behalf in the event of a serious incident or accident.  You do not have to provide this information, but if you do, please make the individual named aware that this information has been passed to Bury u3a and why.

ACCESSIBILITY

We want to ensure that our groups are as accessible as possible to all our members.  You do not have to provide information of any accessibility issues you may have, but if you do, it will enable us to make reasonable adjustments, where possible, to include you in our activities.  

GIFT AID 

If you are a UK tax payer and would like to take advantage of the Gift Aid Scheme, please read the declaration below and click on ‘Y’ on the online application if you would like us to claim gift aid on your subscription fee.

Gift Aid Declaration:  

Please treat as Gift Aid donations all past, present and future payments to Bury u3a. I confirm I have paid or will pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all charities will reclaim on my gift for that tax year.  I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

THIRD AGE TRUST - Magazines

The Third Age Trust produces and distributes magazines directly to u3a members - Third Age Matters (TAM) and Sources.  Should you wish to receive these magazines, your consent is required to allow your data to be shared with the company which oversees the distribution of the Trust magazines. The on-line application form which follows these Terms and Conditions allows you to opt in to receiving these magazines, the default position is set at 'NO' - i.e. to opt out. Please note that if you opt in to receive the magazines your consent will be for the duration of your membership of Bury u3a, unless you advise the membership team otherwise.  It is also important that you advise the membership team if you change your address. 

RETENTION OF INFORMATION

Information is retained for up to one year after the Member resigns. Members authorised to receive personal information from the database must take reasonable precautions to keep this information secure and confidential. Members must take care not to disclose the information to unauthorised parties either intentionally or otherwise, and must ensure that any information received or gathered is destroyed once the purpose for which it was provided is fulfilled.

COOKIE POLICY

We use cookies in our website to improve its performance and enhance your user experience. Cookies are small text files which a website may put on your computer or mobile device when you first visit a site or page. The cookie will help the website to recognise your device the next time you visit. They also help us to remember your username and preferences (e.g. the Groups you select in the 'Group Planner').
